Hyundai Motor Finance Sued for Unsolicited Robocalls

An August 2016 robocall class action lawsuit accused Hyundai Motor Finance of violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).  The TCPA prohibits companies from making automated calls to cells phones without first receiving consent.

The plaintiff in the lawsuit seeks to represent a class of everyone in the United States who received a non-emergency, unauthorized, automated call on their cellular phones from Hyundai within the last four years. The plaintiff does not own a Hyundai and has never inquired about buying one. Yet, he alleged that he has been receiving automated calls on his cell phone from Hyundai for the past several years. The plaintiff claims that he asked Hyundai to stop calling him, but his requests have not been honored.
